Liverpool Daily Post Apprenticeship Campaign

The Liverpool Daily Post today joins forces with the National Apprenticeship Service to launch a campaign to encourage Merseyside companies to sign up to the Government’s Apprenticeship programme.

We want to create 500 new Apprenticeships on Merseyside – providing new jobs and invaluable training for city region youngsters at a time when the economy is suffering its worst down-turn in a generation.

Sue Price, North West Regional Director of the National Apprenticeship Service, outlined the importance of the campaign.

She said: “Apprenticeships are key for Merseyside employers and make a vital contribution to the area’s economy. Employers can provide opportunities for apprentices at a time when prospects may not seem so bright.  If an employer takes on a 16 to 18-year-old as an apprentice and pays their salary then the Government will fund their training costs in full.

“It’s great the Liverpool Daily Post are working with us to create 500 new Apprenticeships for people in Merseyside over the next six months.  The focus of the programme will be to make it as easy as possible for employers to take on apprentices, offering support and advice for both the employer and learner throughout the process. Taking on an apprentice can also reduce the cost of recruitment with the new on-line Apprenticeship vacancies system.”

Mark Thomas, Editor of the Liverpool Daily Post, said: “Apprenticeships are crucial in the current climate.  They provide employers with staff who are willing to learn and will help improve their own business.  The apprentices are given a fantastic start in their chosen career as well as on the job training.

“This important campaign will essentially help to shape Merseyside’s workforce.”
