MORE than 50 of the best pictures of Merseyside life, taken by the Daily Post’s Flickr photographers, have gone on display in a public exhibition.
The Daily Post’s Flickr group and its twin, run by the Liverpool Echo, has been one of the papers’ most popular internet ventures, bringing amateur and professional photographers and Daily Post and Echo staff together to show their photographs and comment on them.
Every week, a Daily Post centre spread is handed over to the Flickr group, but this month’s show is the first time that exhibition-quality prints have been prepared and put on show together.
Editor-in-Chief Alastair Machray said: “This the first real world exhibition of the Liverpool Daily Post and Echo Flickr groups.
“ I say 'real world' because, in a sense, everyone who joins these groups and uploads images is taking part in a permanent online exhibition where their work is shared and celebrated every day.”
A total of 53 picture are in the exhibition by 41 different photographers, on cameras ranging from professional-grade SLRs to point-and-shoot pocket cameras and even a £4.50 eBay bargain using film.
Daily Post and Echo head of imaging Barrie Mills added: “This exhibition demonstrates the extraordinary talent out there.
“It also shows that a good photographer will always win through, no matter how basic and simple their kit.”
The exhibition opens to the public in the Atrium, in Old Hall Street, today and will remain open until next month.
FLICKR group pictures appear in the Daily Post every Thursday and Friday. New members of the Flickr groups are always welcome: log on at www.flickr.com/groups/liverpooldailypost08
