Dating back to 1207 this proud city on the banks of the River Mersey was dubbed “the pool of life” by philosopher Carl Jung. Liverpool has a rich maritime history and an impressive architectural heritage – the city’s waterfront, business district and cultural quarter are World Heritage sites. Now a top tourist destination with a vibrant nightlife Liverpool has also been labelled the capital of pop. It is famous worldwide for being the birthplace of The Beatles with more number ones to its name than anywhere else. The other local passion is sport – the city’s two top-tier football teams Liverpool FC and Everton FC have a global following.
