Mayor of Liverpool

Joe Anderson took control of Liverpool council when Labour won the 2010 elections, and became the first politician to become a metropolitan mayor after signing the 'City Deal' with the government. He was first elected to Liverpool council in 1998 while the group was in opposition. Professionally he worked as a welfare officer in Sefton before resigning the post to concentrate on politics full time. In his earlier life he ran a pub and was a merchant seaman.
