LIVERPOOL’S international tennis tournament has made its first ever profit.
In a radio interview to be aired during tomorrow’s LDP BusinessWeek show, tournament promoter Anders Borg reveals that the Calderstones Park event has moved into the black for the first time in its seven-year history.
The news follows the success of last weekend’s tournament, which was attended by 17,500 spectators who saw matches that included former Wimbledon legends Pat Cash and Martina Hingis.
Speaking on this weekend’s show, presented by Daily Post business editor Bill Gleeson, Mr Borg says: “We are adding up the numbers now. It’s hard to pin down exactly where we stand, but I think this year will be the first one we are in profit.
“Its very hard to establish a tennis event in a public park anywhere, but I feel now we have established ourselves as a one of the blue chip events in the sporting calendar.”
