16 firms line up for sports day

A “SCHOOL sports day” to celebrate Liverpool’s 800th birthday has proved so popular with Merseyside businesses that it has been expanded.

The event, which will see staff from city firms compete against each other in events such as the egg-and-spoon race, will now include 16 teams rather than 12 after “overwhelming demand” from businesses.

It is part of Liverpool Commercial District Partnership’s (LCDP) street party, to be held on Tuesday, August 28 and supported by the Liverpool Daily Post. The festivities will include a parade, music and performances by local artists. The sports day in Old Hall Street will also feature a space hopper race, a sack race and a three-legged race.

The Radisson hotel is providing gym instructors, while all competitors will receive a free sandwich from Mangetout and an 800th birthday souvenir coin from the Culture Company.
