THE Royal Bank of Scotland’s relocation of its corporate team to a new Liverpool headquarters will see staff numbers increase by 25%.
The headquarters will house the bank’s Liverpool Corporate and Commercial teams and 31 additional staff from Lombard, the asset finance arm of RBS, who are moving from Newton Le Willows, to The Plaza in Old Hall Street
RBS business banking specialists who are presently located throughout the city will also move to The Plaza. The number of RBS staff in the city centre will rise from 94 to 125.
The bank is currently based in Dale Street, but managers say space in the building was at a premium and that there was limited scope to expand.
The bank will retain a retail banking branch in Dale Street.
Bill Doherty, director of commercial banking at RBS, said: “Liverpool is one of the key centres for the RBS Group and we have been established in the city for many years.
“The new offices provide us with an ideal opportunity to bring together staff from across the RBS Group, which in turn should lead to an expansion of our businesses across Merseyside.
“We are determined to develop our operations and see this move as a catalyst for these aspirations.”
RBS has taken the entire 10th floor of The Plaza, which includes 21,000 sq ft of office space, and its staff are expected to be in place by October.
The new facility includes 12 meeting rooms, a training suite and nine “touchdown spaces”, quiet areas staff can use for meetings or breaks.
Other corporate teams already based in the Plaza, which was the former headquarters of retail giant Littlewoods, include those from the Co-operative Bank and Alliance & Leicester.
