Be prepared for Red Tape Day, warns support company

A MERSEYSIDE business support company is urging business owners to start preparing for a raft of new regulations that are due to be introduced on October 1.

Blue Orchid managing director Jim Crook said the date, nicknamed Red Tape Day, will see the introduction of several elements of the 2006 Companies Act, including new rules for directors, as well as the first stage of an increase in statutory holiday entitlement and a rise in the national minimum wage.

“Common commencement dates can be a nasty banana skin for employers,” he said.

“Our advice is to build preparation for the changes into your planning as early as possible. These are major changes and business owners simply cannot afford to be complacent. Planning for the changes now allows bosses to spread their time more evenly. Legislation may be arduous but leaving preparation to the last minute only diverts valuable time away from the nitty-gritty of selling your product or service.”
