* GOOD old Cains Brewery is now on the radar of those sophisticated city types following its recent entrance into the stock market.

Of course, taking such a step means entering a whole new world of complex financial jargon. Apparently, the manoeuvre which led to the listing required Cains to “reverse” into Honeycombe Leisure, which doesn’t sound very safe to us.

But the company’s shares are a good buy, according to stockbrokers Charles Stanley Securities, as it is ripe for expansion.

In fact, its analysts were moved to write the following: “The new management team has the support of the bank to make the necessary investments and there appear to be numerous synergistic opportunities for the integrated group to crystallise.”

Can we just have a pint?

* AS IF there wasn’t enough controversy in last Sunday’s football match between Liverpool and Chelsea.

While Reds manager Rafael Benitez was falling out with the ref over a penalty blunder, things were nearly as bad at auction house Sutton Kersh Binstock.

Auctioneer Andrew Binstock, above, is the self-proclaimed London motormouth whose credentials have been put to good use, both with the gavel in recent five-hour marathon auctions and as Sky Sports Fanzone official Chelsea supporter commentator.

James Kersh, a close friend and business partner in Sutton Kersh Binstock (as well as running Sutton Kersh Auctions over which Binstock presides on Merseyside) is a mad Liverpool fan.

“To say there was a bit of banter between us last Sunday would be a massive understatement,” said Binstock.

* FOOTBALL isn’t the only speciality at Sutton Kersh, it seems music is a passion for some, too.

We are thinking, in particular, about head of the firm’s commercial arm, Jonathan Owen.

Before embarking on a successful career as a surveyor, Jonathan funded his way through university as a singer. So serious was his crooning at one point that he and his band – Jonny Chocolate and the Buttons – even recorded a CD, which he still carries in his car.
