Capenhurst tops safety report

THE nuclear site at Capenhurst has the best safety record and is making more rapid progress towards its clean-up than any other UK decommissioning site, a new report says.
Capenhurst, which aims to be the first British site of its kind to complete its clean-up in 2009, was praised by owner the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority in its quarterly review.
It was recognised for its progress against schedules and costs, as well as its excellent safety record. Capenhurst’s head of site Phil Malem said: “Due to the fact that we are significantly ahead of all other nuclear decommissioning sites, Capenhurst is fast becoming the blueprint for nuclear clean-up management in the UK – that’s something of which we’re extremely proud.”
