KNOWSLEY Community College student, Kelly Dixon, will don her decorator’s whites and take up her paintbrush to begin an 18-month apprenticeship with Liverpool builder Rok.
The 19-year old from Kirkby has begun her Level 2 NVQ in Painting and Decorating and is set to spend a four-day a week placement with Rok, working on the insides and outsides of homes across Merseyside as part of an experienced team.
She said: “I’ve always helped my mum out around the house as she’s always decorated our home. I knew from an early age this was something that I wanted to do professionally.”
Kelly is now part of the Rok repair and maintenance team which offers a range of domestic building services, including painting and decorating, under agreements with some of the country’s largest insurance companies.
She added: “I’m really pleased to have been given the placement with Rok where I have already been offered a full time position when I pass and finish my course. I hope to then learn how to plaster and tile and continue to build up my skills in the industry.”
