Students vie for design study prize

MORE than 200 students from Liverpool’s John Moores University School of the Built Environment have taken part in a week-long assignment, to create a design proposal that will form part of a major housing and retail development in Merseyside.

Builders Rok have been working closely with lecturers and students, who were each given a week to develop a detailed feasibility study. The winning group was chosen following a series of presentations judged by representatives from Rok.

A cheque for £2,000 was presented to winning team, Four Front Consultants, who were praised for their innovative design, use of sustainable building technologies and professional presentation skills.

They were one of several teams who each responded to the brief.

Each group, comprising a range of disciplines from within the built environment sector, worked closely together during the week to develop and present a scheme that demonstrated their knowledge and enthusiasm.

Martin Ormston, Rok area leader, said: “This has been a demanding challenge for the students to test their skills. It has given them all an opportunity to follow the process through, albeit in an abbreviated time frame, from planning and feasibility to implementation.”
