Airbus hopes for Far East orders

to offset the cost of higher fuel prices.

But more production delays for the jet have angered airlines and the first of the aircraft will not now be delivered until 2009.

JAL spokesman Stephen Pearlman confirmed it had “taken a look” at the A350 and, in terms of introducing the jet, “we think it’s one of the strong candidates”.

But he added that JAL had not yet altered its original plan.

The A350 is the 787’s rival in the long haul, mid-sized plane market.

Airbus’ chief operating officer John Leahy believes Singapore Airlines will take 10 to 15 more A380 superjumbos and more of its A350 and A330s.
