Airbus defence

TOP US Air Force officials are today expected to defend their decision to award a £18bn contract for a 179 new refuelling aircraft to Northrop Grumman and European partner EADS.

They will testify before a House Appropriations subcommittee on the contract win for Airbus parent group EADS which beat rival US aircraft maker Boeing to the giant order.

Northrop says it will assemble its A330 aircraft in Mobile, Alabama, creating 2,500 jobs.
