Law firm starts watching brief for new premises ahead of lease ending

WEIGHTMANS looks likely to be the next major Liverpool law firm to move to new premises.

The firm currently employs around 440 people at its base in India Buildings, but the lease expires in two years and it is believed it is now considering relocating to a new home.

Three corporate law firms in the city – Brabners Chaffe Street, Hill Dickinson and DWF either have moved, or are about to move, in to new headquarters.

Brabners moved into refurbished space in Exchange Flags last year; Hill Dickinson moved into St Paul’s Square over the last few weeks, and DWF will follow them later in the year.

Weightmans is looking at several options, with refurbished space at the Capital Building in Old Hall Street a strong possibility.

David Lewis, a partner and head of the Liverpool office, said: “We are considering various options.

“We are committed to Liverpool city centre. We have grown enormously since we moved into India Buildings in 2002 and we’re proud to be one of the largest professional tenants in the city.

“It’s my job to make sure we are in a space that really works for the firm, our clients and our people. We have a couple of years left to run on our leases here, so now is the ideal time for us to consider all of our options.”
