DEPARTMENT store chain John Lewis says its new Liverpool store is continuing to exceed expectations, despite poor sales for the chain nationally.
Sales at the partnership during the week to June 21 fell 1.2% compared to last year. It is the sixth weekly decline in the past seven weeks.
The week’s sales of £45.45m were weighed down by a 5.3% dip in electrical and technology items and 7.3% for home goods – offsetting a 7.2% improvement for fashion.
Sales during the 21 weeks to June 21 are up 1.2% compared to a last year – a “clear reflection of the more challenging environment”, according to managing director Andy Street.
However, the new Liverpool One outlet was continuing to see shoppers surge through its doors.
