Baby Land Rover makes its debut in city which may build it

THE new Land Rover model that could revolutionise the 4x4 sector has made its first visit to the city where it may be built.

The “environ-mentally friendly” LRX baby Land Rover is smaller and more fuel-efficient than existing models.

Land Rover has not yet confirmed whether the vehicle will go into production but the Halewood plant, where Jaguar and Land Rover employ more than 2,000 people, is thought to be the most likely place to build it.

The vehicle was on display outside St George’s Hall, where Land Rover managing director Phil Popham addressed the annual CBI North West dinner. It will go to the Halewood plant for the first time tomorrow.

Mr Popham said: “The LRX is very exciting. It’s got the wow factor. People’s reaction is positive. We’d very much like to produce it if we could make money out of it.”
