THE latest PMI Business Survey Data produced for the Royal Bank of Scotland shows the North West experienced a contraction in private sector output in June.
However, the North West economy declined at slower rate than the UK average. Only the South East performed better in June, posting a slight increase in activity.
The Business Activity Index fell for the fifth time in six months.
It fell below the 50 no-change threshold for the first time since July 2005.
RBS economist Philip McKinnon said: “The regional economy has slowed sharply in line with other UK regions, 10 of which also posted declines.”
