HOLIDAY parks firm Pontin’s has benefited as consumers tighten their belts to cope with the strength of the euro and the credit crunch.
Pontin’s summer bookings have risen 10% as more Britons choose to holiday at home instead of overseas.
Pontin’s chief executive Ian Smith said: “Customers are opting to enjoy their British traditional holiday with us. They want to make their money go further and when you consider how strong the euro is against the pound the Pontin’s pound takes a lot of beating.”
Mr Smith, the former finance director of Skelmersdale-based Matalan, is part of a four-strong management team at Ocean Parcs that has been seeking to re-position the parks in the UK holiday market.
Every year, over 750,000 people holiday at one of Pontin’s seven UK sites.
