Indentity fraud rise

MORE than 21,000 businesses in the North West have fallen victim to identity fraud, according to a new study.

And the report, by Close Invoice Finance, claims thousands more could be at risk.

Findings from the Small Business Finance Barometer show that while the rise of personal identity theft is well documented, organised criminals are now turning their attention to the corporate market with small and medium sized businesses top of their hit list.

David Thomson, chief executive of Close Invoice Finance, said: “Small and medium sized businesses are especially vulnerable as they lack the manpower and systems to protect themselves.”
