Advice centre helping more thanks to expansion success

STARTING Point, the employ- ment advice and guidance centre managed by St Helens Chamber, is celebrating a major expansion of its services into the community.

Following a considerable injection of funds from St Helens Council’s Deprived Area Fund (DAF) last year, the Starting Point Outreach Team expanded by another five advisers, bringing them to a total of 11.

This expansion has allowed the team of advisers to reach even more people in areas with some of the highest levels of unemployment in the borough, increasing the depth of support offered and enhancing the accessibility of their services.

The Deprived Area Fund (DAF) was announced last year by the Department for Work and Pensions, which allocated £65m to enable local areas to tackle unemployment problems.
