Traders fear more rail work

LIVERPOOL Chamber of Commerce has joined forces with three other chambers to ask Network Rail not to extend engineering work into the working week.

The chamber, along with sister bodies in London, Birmingham and Manchester, has written to Network Rail chief executive Iain Coucher to tell him that, if engineering work does spill over to weekdays, it could damage businesses in the North West and Midlands who are already coping with the credit crunch.

Work means services are being disrupted on most weekends and bank holidays to try to hit a December target.
