Teenager keeps up family skills building firm

A TEENAGER has become the third generation of his family to work for Liverpool-based building services provider, AW Byrne.

Craig Brighouse, 15, is doing work experience as a painter and decorator with a view to starting a three-year apprenticeship when he is 16.

He will be working alongside his uncle, Paul Brighouse, and grandfather, Frank Brighouse.

AW Byrne now operates a workforce of more than 80 full- time staff, mostly skilled tradesmen.

Tony Byrne, managing director, said: “It’s great to see three generations of the same family following a traditional trade like painting and decorating.”

He added: “There is a real demand in both our local area and nationally for traditional tradesmen. Our aim is to bridge that gap, bringing in new people and continually developing our existing workforce.”
