City property chief quits after five years

PROPERTY firm Bruntwood’s top man in Liverpool has left his job and will not be replaced.

The company, one of the biggest commercial landlords in the city, did not disclose the reason for David Guest’s departure, although he will still represent Bruntwood in his new role as chairman of the Liverpool Commercial District Partnership (LCDP).

Mr Guest was instrumental in turning Manchester-based Bruntwood into one of the leading players in the Liverpool market.

A spokesman said: “David will not be directly replaced, but the strong team in Liverpool will continue to carry out the work he led so successfully.”

Mr Guest says he plans to develop work as a consultant.

He told the Daily Post: “I had five enjoyable years in Liverpool which taught me a lot about the business, particularly from a strategic viewpoint.

“I feel the time is right for me to go it alone. There are lots of opportunities out there for those requiring quick, decisive thinking. I’m currently looking at a couple of proposals and am delighted to still play a role in Liverpool at the Commercial District Partnership.”

Bruntwood acquired the former Littlewoods headquarters, in Old Hall Street, now known as the Plaza, in 2002. It refurbished the building, one of Liverpool waterfront’s most prominent landmarks, before successfully finding new tenants for it.

Bruntwood also owns The Cotton Exchange, Number 1 Dale Street and Oriel Chambers.

Chris Oglesby, Bruntwood’s chief executive said: “I have worked alongside David for more than 10 years, and during this time he has been a great ambassador for our business. I am delighted he will continue to strengthen Bruntwood’s links with the city through this role with the LCDP.

“His commercial experience and relationships in the city, position him well to lead the partnership.”

Paul Rice, chief executive of LCDP, said: “I’m delighted that David has agreed to continue his relationship with the partnership. He shares our aim of making the commercial district a European-class destination and it’s great that he’s still onboard.

“The district has made real strides over the past few years, and David has been at the centre of much of our good work. He dedicates an incredible amount of time to our cause and brings his unique skills to the table.”
