Hotels prepare for the arrival of MTV Europe Music Award superstars

Singer Duffy

LIVERPOOL hotels should cash in as A-List celebrities descend on the city for the MTV Europe Music Awards.

Pink, Duffy, The Killers, Beyoncé and Kid Rock have already been signed up, with more artists to be announced over the next few weeks.

Britney Spears is hotly tipped to make a return to the city, and her record company Sony BMG is said to be dining at the Panoramic restaurant. However, Panoramic, in the West Tower, said nothing had been confirmed.

Britney returned to form at the American MTV awards and is a nominee for the Act of 2008 award up against the likes of Amy Winehouse and Coldplay as well as Best Act Ever.

Hotels are tight- lipped about their celebrity clientele but Peter Sivy, director of operations at Radisson SAS, on Old Hall Street, said: “It’s a prestigious event and we’ve got the big names coming through our door.

“It’s more the profile and prestige that interests us.”

Meanwhile, Hard Day’s Night Hotel has been block-booked for the awards and Michael Dewey, general manager, said: “It’s been great for the hotel in its first year, and MTV tops it all off.”

Mark James, general manager at Malmasion said: “The hotel does a lot of work with the entertainment business, so no doubt there will be big names here, but MTV is holding its cards close to its chest at the moment.”
