Score: 20 Ways to Win

The sequel to the acclaimed book, The Culture of Capital

THE Culture of Capital team are following up the success of their first book with a sequel. Publishers Capsica and corporate finance experts The Steve Stuart Partnership (TSSP) have teamed up again to produce Score, which will be launched in September this year.

Score addresses the major obstacle to setting up your own business: fear of failure, including attitudes to risk, minimising risk, coping if your first attempt does not succeed, and what it takes to succeed. It takes inspiration from a score of North West entrepreneurs in a variety of fields, not just the business arena. Enterprise, it stresses, is an attitude, not a synonym for business.

There are few rules to being a successful entrepreneur: drive, belief, passion and energy.

What does not matter is social background, education, gender, age, skin colour, religion, place of birth or specific talent, is its underlying message.

Steve Stuart, founder of TSSP, says: "Liverpool and Merseyside need to move away from reliance on public sector and focus on wealth creation and economic diversity. After the harsh economic climate of the last 40 years on Merseyside, it's not surprising that people have been reluctant to risk secure jobs for an uncertain future. But now the city-region is in a sharp upward growth pattern, and this is the time, in the year of Liverpool's 800th birthday and with the European Capital of Culture round the corner, to take that leap forward."

Capsica editorial director, Arabella McIntyre-Brown, added: "Change is a 21-year cycle.

“It is 26 years since the Granby riots; 23 years since the Garden Festival, and 22 years since Militant were chucked out of the local authority. Liverpool is ready for a quantum leap forward."

Score is sponsored by a group of local professionals, including Rensburg Sheppards, The Royal Bank of Scotland, Commercial Banking Liverpool and Halliwells.

The sponsors will be running a programme of business seminars in the City related to the Score theme.

Capsica MD Fiona Shaw says: "Following up The Culture of Capital with Score shows how the private sector can and will take the initiative and seize opportunities for the city and its people."
