CHESHIRE: County high 'second most improved in UK'

FRODSHAM Science and Technology College headed up a very good performance in Cheshire by being ranked joint second most improved school in the country.

The amount of pupils at the school achieving five passes at GCSE including maths and English was 59%, compared to the national 46%.

Lead member for children’s services in Cheshire, councillor David Rowland said: “Once again I would like to congratulate students for attaining results which are over the national average figures and this reflects on the hard work of teachers and parents.

“Our results remain amoung the best in the country and students continue to do well despite the fact that improvement becomes harder each year to attain.

Every secondary school in the county managed to attain beat the national baseline of 30% of pupils passing five GCSEs, including English and maths.

County Hall chiefs in Chester say they are pleased they managed to surpass this target one year ahead of the Government deadline.Average truancy levels were up, this year at 1.2%, having been fallen to 1% last year.

Blacon High, in Chester’s most deprived estates, was the worst offender with 3.2%.
