Last night the PCT said it was deeply committed to improving the health of every child in the city.
Dr Paula Grey, Liverpool’s director of Public Health, said: “[We have] already committed over £1m to Transforming School Food, which is funding improvements to school kitchens, installing salad bars and fruit vending machines in schools across the city.
“We also run a number of other successful initiatives and programmes in Liverpool, including the Taste for Health which proactively works with people across the city to improve their health by making fruit and vegetables more accessible.
“Liverpool PCT welcomes this report and we look forward to receiving its findings.”
Parents group, the Campaign for Real Education, said the money would be better spent elsewhere as many of the families that would receive the meals could afford to pay for them.
