Wirral Primary schools still under threat

This was followed by closures of Bromborough Pool and St Mary’s CE Primary School, as well as Poulton Primary School, and Pensby Infant and Juniors schools, Pensby Park Primary School, and Arrowe Hill Primary School.

In his report, Howard Cooper, director of children’s services, said: “It is estimated that, had the Primary Places Review not been carried out, the 2008 figure of 3,785 and 13.8% surplus places would now have reached 5,135 and 18% surplus places.”

During the first three phases of the review, 58 teaching staff and 121 non-teaching support staff were affected by the closure or amalgamation of schools.

The report recommends continuing the programme of reviewing all the primary schools and sets out the order for the coming years.

LEA officers will be looking first at schools in Birkenhead, followed by Wallasey, Leasowe, Moreton, Upton and Greasby.
