But the sticking point appears to be working hours, with the union unhappy the college expects new lecturers to work 28 hours a week, the UCU want it set at 26 hours, save for “exceptional circumstances.”
Pickets will gather outside the college tomorrow morning culminating in a rally outside its arts centre in Myrtle Street at 11am.
Last night the college said it was “disappointed” at the action - particular as it coincides with exam season.
However the spokesman stressed the college would be open as normal tomorrow.
A spokesman added: “The new contract gives the college greater flexibility to meet the challenges in a changing business environment.
“Liverpool Community College values its workforce and continues to offer some of the most generous conditions in the further education sector.”
The spokesman added: “Annual teaching hours will not be increased and teachers will still receive 12 weeks holiday a year along with other benefits such as a pension scheme.
“We have also agreed with UCU to review the £29,000 salary cap in three year’s time.
“This is before any new members reach that point on the pay scale.”
