Lecturers plan ‘funeral’ march to mourn new contracts at Liverpool Community College

The college has just opened a £35m new building in Roscoe Street.

Last night, Ms Doran said the union also feared the pay and contracts issue would hamper recruitment as well.

“The case for parity in pay seems to have been abandoned, while the top dogs sit on very comfortable wages and get comfortable wage increases.”

In response, a Liverpool Community College spokesman said the college “continues to offer some of the most generous conditions of service in the further education sector”.

He added: “The new contract will give the college greater flexibility in delivering an outstanding service for the changing needs of students and employers.

“Teachers will still receive 12 weeks holiday a year, along with other benefits such as a pension scheme.

“It is college policy to meet the national annual pay award as recommended by the Association of Colleges where it is affordable.

“We have honoured this award for a number of years and confirm a 1.5% increase this autumn.”

On the wages of senior managers, he added: “It is not clear where the UCU have obtained their figures as the senior management pay award has not been agreed.”
