Ex-government advisor Sir David King is University of Liverpool’s new Chancellor

Sir David King

He added: “The University of Liverpool is recognised worldwide for the quality of its teaching and research, and its reputation for international excellence continues to grow.

“I spent 14 formative years as a professor of the university and am now delighted to return to play a role in its future development.”

He replaces Lord Owen, who decided to hang up his robes after nearly 14 years in the post because, as he put it, “I am really an old fart now”.

David McDonnell, President of Council at the university, said: “Sir David’s guidance and expertise will be invaluable.”

He will formally be installed during the university’s graduation ceremonies on December 8.
