Liverpool John Moores University’s planned £37m facility unveiled

A LIVERPOOL university has won approval to build a £37.6m “world-class” building in the heart of the city.

New images show Liverpool John Moores University’s planned new facility to form part of its Mount Pleasant Campus.

Last night university officials insisted it’s biggest ever single investment will not only provide world leading educational facilities, but be a key driver to advance the renewal and regeneration of Liverpool.

Yesterday, the university’s masterplan overcame its first hurdle with Liverpool council planners granting planning permission for the building which will border both Clarence Street and Brownlow Hill.

The Daily Post can reveal the new 124,000 sq.ft. building will be twice the size of the existing Clarence Street tower.

The current dormant premises, which architects say is no longer fit for purpose, will be demolished to make way for the new facilities..

The multi-million pound venture will house around 2,000 students and bring together a number of faculties and departments currently spread across sites in the city.

Those based at the new facility will include the university’s faculty of business and law, the screen school media hub and a new professional centre.

University officials believe the six-storey building will transform the area known as the Knowledge Quarter.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Michael Brown said it was a significant investment which will further boost LJMU’s reputation as a provider of high quality education and a leader in knowledge transfer.

He said that the new building would also enhance the student experience and equip students with essential world of work skills, fostering entrepreneurial thinking and harnessing advances in digital and communication technologies.

But he said the investment would have wider significance.
