Gateacre weather help
In Liverpool, all A-Level exams are believed to have gone ahead as scheduled, and just over a dozen city schools failed to open yesterday. Like Sefton, Wirral and Knowsley, the majority of schools were due to be open today.
City schools defying the weather yesterday included Gateacre Comprehensive.
All 40 A-Level students were able to make it in for exams after around 70 teachers and parents had spent part of their weekend shovelling ice and snow to make the Grange Lane school safe.
Head teacher Gerard Lonergan praised the efforts of the volunteers and said their elbow grease meant “everything has run normally.” And he said national criticism of exam boards for not postponing tests was unfair: “They face a real dilemma, all schools are affected differently and if you do not run exams simultaneously it means some kids could cheat.”
Blackmoor Park juniors, West Derby, was among schools due to reopen today after a grit delivery.
