HUNDREDS of Merseyside lecturers and students did the conga and donned masks of Chancellor George Osborne to protest about future funding cuts.
The spectacle outside Hugh Baird College was part of a national protest staged by unions including Unison, UCU, and Unite.
The event came ahead of today’s Budget and feared further cuts to education budgets.
Among those taking part in the two-hour protest outside Hugh Baird College was Sue Parry.
The college worker and Sefton Unison official said: “We already lost £173,000 in funding cuts last year, and we fear they will be even worse this time around.”
She added: “The Government should be giving people skills through education, not taking it away.
“Particularly in places like Bootle, with high rates of unemployment.”
As well as the conga, those assembled sounded vuvuzelas and handed out leaflets.
Lecturers and students from Liverpool universities and colleges also staged a protest march which finished at Liverpool John Moores University’s Foster Building.
