Everton Valley secondary Notre Dame on verge of becoming fully mixed sex

A CITY school is on the verge of becoming fully mixed sex for the first time, in a move to “secure its long- term future”.

Although girls are in the majority at Notre Dame Catholic College for the Arts, in Everton Valley, it welcomes boys from the age of 14.

And after getting backing from Liverpool council’s education officials, the school’s plan to become fully mixed sex are set to become a reality from September, 2012.

A council report supporting the new guise of the school, established in 1869, says unisex year groups will address an “imbalance” of Catholic single sex provision in North Liverpool with 73% of places girls and 27% boys.

And the move, the report stresses, will “secure the existing, planned admission number of 150 for Notre Dame, thereby securing the long-term future of the college and enabling an even wider range of courses”.

College Trustees, the Sisters of Notre Dame, support the change designed to restore Catholic high school provision for boys which was lost to the Everton Valley and Vauxhall area when the former Campion School closed in 2006.
