Gateacre Comprehensive school
A RESTAURANT allowing staff and pupils to dine in style before and after class will be among features of the new £30m home of one of Liverpool’s Gateacre Comprehensive.
The details are revealed in an exclusive look round the multi-million pound premises of Gateacre Comprehensive, opening next month.
The oversubscribed 1,200 pupil secondary had been based for more than 50 years in its ageing Grange Lane site.
But, after it became one of the last Liverpool schools to secure funding under Labour’s Building Schools For the Future scheme, it is weeks away from opening in its new ultra-modern home, half a mile away on the Reggie Smith memorial ground, in Belle Vale.
And, as these eye-catching images show, the school has made the most of its funding.
Features include a fitness suite, outdoor hard courts for tennis and netball, extensive fields for football, rugby, cricket and athletics.
At the heart of the new premises is a giant atrium utilising natural light and a place where students, staff and visitors can meet, talk, eat, drink and study.
And it also includes a bistro-style restaurant the school has named The Fig Tree Cafe, where, at times, pupils will help staff to ensure they hone their culinary and practical skills as part of official coursework.
