ST Helens is celebrating its best ever results.
The number of students getting five A* to C GCSEs including maths and English went up around 1% to 42.8%.
The number getting five good GCSEs of any kind increased nearly 6% to 68%.
Susan Richardson, director of childrens services, said: I am really very pleased indeed with these results.
They are not only the best-ever all round, but this is the first year in which there is such a consistency of improvement in all schools.
