Lancashire: good, but work still to do as pupils meet the average

LANCASHIRE schools are ahead of the national average in the benchmark five A* to C including Maths and English, with 50.8%.
But it equalled the national average without the two core subjects, with 65.3% achieving A* to C grades.
Lancashire County Councillor Jennifer Mein, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “The school performance tables confirm that significant improvements have been made to overall county standards at GCSE level and I want to congratulate all our secondary school students.
“Very nearly all our schools have now achieved the Government’s original target of more than 30 per cent of pupils achieving five or more GCSEs at grades A* to C, and it is encouraging that we have significantly reduced the number of schools within the scope of the National Challenge.
“I would like to praise the many pupils who have worked very hard to improve their own personal standards.”
