SEFTON schools’ results have shown another significant increase in pupil performance and make them Merseyside’s top performer.
In the borough, 51.4% of students achieved the benchmark standard (five or more A* to C grades including English and maths) compared with 45.9% last year.
The number of students achieving Level 2 (five A* to C) has also shown a sharp rise with 71.2% of pupils compared to 64.1% in 2007.
Young people achieving at least one qualification also rose slightly to 98.2% compared to 97.9 in 2007.
Progress of pupils between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 4 has also improved.
Sefton Council cabinet member for Children’s Services, Cllr Peter Dowd, said: “It is always very encouraging to see our figures travelling in the right direction once again.
“Our GCSE pupils have obviously put in a lot of hard work and it is great to see that work resulting in such a fine performance.
“We have continued to push for improvements in education in Sefton and invested heavily to make the borough one of the best performing in the country for our children and young people.
“This is another fantastic achievement for everyone.”
