ST HELENS: Year of record results
GCSE pupils in St Helens are celebrating a record year of results.
The overall five A* to C pass rate has shot up from 56.6% to 62.2%, compared to the 60.8% national average.
But despite a 3.3% rise – to 41.3% – in pupils passing five A* to C including English and maths, it is still 4% below the national average.
Rainford High school is ranked top of the pile in St Helens after performing especially well in the GCSE exams.
It has the highest five A* to C rate including maths and English which went up 3% to 65%.
It is also leading the way in attendance with an unauthorised absent rate of just 0.9%.
The executive member for children and young people’s services, Shirley Evans, said: “This is a terrific achievement and realises our long held ambition to break through the national average figure.
“We have a very strong base on which to build on to achieve even further success.”
