WARRINGTON: Good performance continues

WARRINGTON schools maintained a good performance averaging 3.8% more than the national average for students attaining five GSCE passes including maths and English.

Last year, when results did not take account of English and maths, schools in Warrington managed to out-perform the national average by 7.8%.

The two best performing schools were St Gregory’s RC High, Westbrook, and Bridgewater High, Appleton.

Steve Clarke, headteacher at St Gregory’s for the last seven years, said: “The whole school is very proud of the achievement of our pupils which has been achieved through hard work and a quality support given by the teachers and staff.

“I put out results down to a huge amount of work and dedication of the teaching staff.”

Lymm High suffered most under the new system by falling from first to third place in the Warrington league within a year.

In 2006 94% of pupils landed A-C passes but in 2007 this dropped to 66%, once English and Maths were included.
