SCHOOLS in Wirral have once again surpassed the national average.
The number of pupils gaining five A* to C at GCSE maths and English stands at 50.2% across the district, 2.6% higher than the national average.
Girls dramatically outperformed boys by more than 10% in achieving five A* to C grades.
Howard Cooper, director of children’s services at Wirral Council, said: “It has been another excellent year for schools in Wirral where results continue to improve.
“The percentage of pupils gaining five or more GCSE grades (or equivalent) increased by 5% from the previous year, and for the first time more than half of pupils gained five or more GCSE grades (or equivalent) including English and maths.
“Results at post-16 (A-levels and equivalent) have risen for the third year running. My congratulations go to all those pupils and their teachers who worked so hard to make it happen.”
