LIVERPOOL’S green collar workforce is expanding, thanks to 30 new jobs created by the city council.
Ten of the jobs will be with the city council’s environment team and will work with local businesses to encourage them to recycle more. The remaining 20 jobs will be with Enterprise Liverpool. Ten of the new recruits will be responsible for removing graffiti and dog fouling, emptying bins and reporting environmental crimes such as fly-tipping, potholes or damaged flag stones. The final ten will look after the city’s cycle paths, making sure they’re free of litter and glass and reporting problems with the routes.
The new positions are part of the Future Jobs Fund, which offers access to an apprenticeship and on-the-job training.
Cllr Warren Bradley, leader of the city council, said: “The city council has worked hard to create these 30 jobs and I’m delighted that, in these recession-hit times, we can offer Liverpool people the chance to return to employment and learn new skills. We wanted to make sure that the new roles would make a positive difference to Liverpool, and keeping our streets clean is a top priority.
“This is just the beginning.
“We hope to provide more than 1,000 job opportunities for young and older people and Liverpool will buck the unemployment trend that we can currently see across the UK.”
