Enigmatic Scot could round off fine week

View From the Stands

SO Goodison welcomes a national hero whose two wonder goals in the space of a week have elevated him to iconic status and made the rest of Europe stand up and take notice – and James McFadden’s still going to be struggling to get on our bench for today’s game!

Faddy unfortunately remains Everton’s biggest enigma of modern times. From his first couple of games, it was clear he was a player who was a genius in spells yet frustratingly poor at other times. Sadly, I still don’t feel we’re any closer to seeing a player who can be relied on to consistently produce. A scorer of great goals rather than a great goalscorer sums up Jimmy Mac perfectly.

For the past 20 years, this fixture is generally one we’ve gone into with fear, almost an acceptance that we’ll get beat, but as long as we give it our best shot then we can’t ask for more. This time round, however, there is a sense of anticipation.

Following their hesitant start, away to Everton is one of the last fixtures United would have wanted.

The biggest threat comes from United’s determination to get back on track. They know any more slip-ups will make it difficult to retain the title, so they’re going to come all guns blazing. However, with the promising signs shown by AJ and the Yak at Bolton, I can see us also taking the game to United. After a couple of quieter games, hopefully Arteta can produce a bit of magic.

What would be a finer sight than the Yak scoring on his home debut and then Jimmy Mac coming off the bench to make it three screamers in a week?
