Squad fears
AN EVERTON squad that was too small for last year’s domestic competitions has hardly been reinforced.
While it would be wrong to pay inflated prices for players, Everton must recognise that fees will be dictated by market rates. They will have to pay over the odds to attract the quality and numbers needed to cope with UEFA Cup demands.
What has happened to the £27m revenue from last season? Surely, £6m for David Nugent, potentially a future full England International, would have been a sound investment (Lescott had no Premiership experience before he came).
What about Jason Koumas _ an international midfield player bought for £5.3million by moneybags Wigan!

Laid bare
EVERTON have a 24 man squad which has got to play in the Premiership, League Cup, UEFA Cup and FA Cup, six of whom have never played in the Premiership.
Next Saturday against Wigan we’ve got 22 players to choose from as James Vaughan and Tim Cahill are. Take out those six and we’ve got 16 players, just enough to cover a match squad.
What do you think this season has to offer us?

Pushed to Kirkby
ALTHOUGH I don’t live on Merseyside any more, having supported EFC since 1966 means it is in my blood as much as anyone.
I feel we’ve been railroaded into picking Kirkby by a board who couldn’t go out to the marketplace and find a big investor to help pay for a stadium in Everton.
When we got into the Champions League, before a ball was even kicked in that campaign they should have been out scouring the planet for someone to take us forward.
Even if we do move to Kirkby, we will be playing in a non-descript stadium that has no soul. A new Goodison should be an iconic building. I hate to say it, but looking at the sketch for Liverpool’s new ground, it looks impressive. That’s what we should be aiming for. If we have to move then make it to a stadium worth moving to, not something that will just ‘do’.
