Victor scared to miss his sitter!

Striker Victor Anichebe

VICTOR ANICHEBE admitted he was terrified when he got the chance to make it 2-0 to Everton in Saturday’s opening day fixture with Wigan at Goodison.

After Andrew Johnson pulled the ball back to leave the 19-year-old an open goal in the 75th minute of the game, he eventually scuffed the ball in via Titus Bramble and the crossbar.

Anichebe then revealed that he had missed an identical chance in training the day before – small wonder then that he puffed his cheeks out in relief when he turned away to celebrate.

“I am delighted but when the ball came to me I was scared,” said Anichebe.

“That was the most scared I have been for a while. I had a chance like that in training on Friday and missed it!

“It was good to see it go in but we have been working hard in pre-season on linking up like that.

“AJ did really well – he told me to hang at the back post during half-time and it came to me.”
