Leon Osman delight at scoring start

Leon Osman

EVERTON midfielder Leon Osman has revealed how his goal in Saturday's opening day victory over Wigan has buoyed his confidence for the new season.

He said: "If I come off any game and haven't scored when I've had the chance, then I'll be very disappointed and upset with myself.

"It's good to have got one so soon though and hopefully I'll get a few more. I don't score many headers from that far out and it is unfortunate for goalkeepers when they get lobbed from that distance but I was absolutely delighted."

An 11th place finish in 2006 came in between pleasing fourth place and sixth place seasons and Osman revealed everyone at Goodison is hoping to end their yo-yo trend.

He said: "We would have a good season and then a bad season and alternate between the two. We are looking to step forward and keep ourselves up there every season, as we've done last season and back in 2005."
