Everton manager David Moyes has expressed his surprise at the departure of Jose Mourinho from Chelsea and suggested it could have had nothing to do with results.
The Londoners released a statement yesterday insisted the mutual agreement had been reached after a “breakdown” in the relationship between manager and club.
Moyes said: “I am surprised he has gone, and a little disappointed because he has been good for the game. But maybe now it will allow others to win some trophies.
“He has been very successful. But there must have been some problems behind the scenes for it to happen because he surely wasn’t being judged on the results he was bringing back to Chelsea.
“We will all be sad to see him go, but he will not be far from football in the future, I am sure.
“I found him a really good guy, he always had a word and a chat. He was very successful at Porto, which earned him the right to manage Chelsea.”
