EVERTON Ladies suffered their second defeat in the Women’s UEFA Cup on Saturday, as they fell 2-1 to former champions Frankfurt.
Mo Marley’s team can still qualify for the quarter-finals, but they have a big hill to climb if they do.
England midfielder Fara Williams opened the scoring on three minutes but just before the half hour former World Player of the Year Birgit Prinz levelled.
And two minutes into stoppage time, substitute Conny Pohlers stole the points. From a corner, Pohlers pulled off at the far post and was left free to prod home.
Disappointed and deflated at the late goal, the players, though, must now pick themselves up for the final group game tomorrow against Valur Reykjavik.
“We’ve played well since we’ve been out here,” said Everton coach Keith Marley.
“But we’ve got nothing to show for our efforts. I think if we win 4-0 against Valur, we should be through. That’s all we want now; is the chance to go through”
Everton kick-off their match against Valur at 6.30pm tomorrow.
